The Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake is deep into production across multiple New Jersey towns — and fans are catching glimpses of Camp Blood’s early days.
From Hawthorne to Blairstown to Paterson, the A24/Peacock series is transforming familiar streets into the sinister, small-town setting we’ve been dying to revisit.
Mrs. Voorhees Reports for Duty
In Hawthorne, horror fan and Instagram user @strangerthingshouse_nj spotted Pamela Voorhees (Linda Cardellini) stepping out of her Jeep and walking into the Crystal Lake Police Department. The scene was filmed under the glow of streetlights, instantly setting the Halloween mood.
Local collectors’ podcast @aic_podcast also shared photos of the faux police station, celebrating the Jason Universe expansion and teasing fans about what’s to come.
Blairstown’s Town Hall Makeover
Meanwhile in Blairstown — already immortalized in the opening of the original Friday the 13th (1980) — David Madison revealed that his friend’s shop had been transformed into Crystal Lake’s Town Hall. The small-town facelift adds another layer of authenticity for fans who know the franchise’s roots in rural New Jersey.
Hollywood East in Paterson
Paterson’s mayor Andre Sayegh posted a shot with actor William Catlett (Black Lightning, The Devil You Know), announcing that “Hollywood East” is alive and well in the city. For the past seven years, Paterson has drawn filmmakers, but seeing it play a role in Crystal Lake cements its horror cred.
A Killer Callback to 1980
One of the most charming sightings so far? A red oil truck parked on the street in Hawthorne, belonging to Elston Oil Supply. Its hulking, vintage silhouette instantly recalls the GMC 6000 driven by Enos (Rex Everhart) in the Friday the 13th original — the very truck that gave Annie (Robbi Morgan) her doomed ride toward Camp Crystal Lake.
For hardcore fans, it’s the kind of visual Easter egg that bridges the decades between Sean S. Cunningham’s original and Brad Caleb Kane’s upcoming vision.
