Jason Universe Slashes Back at SDCC 2025

Crystal Lake (2025), Sweet Revenge

Jason Universe slashes into SDCC 2025 with Sweet Revenge, NECA collectibles, Crystal Lake updates, and news of a new movie and game in development.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, the mask came off… only to reveal more masks. Jason Voorhees is officially back, and his bloody legacy is being reborn across screens, toys, and campgrounds. The long-anticipated Jason Universe panel celebrated the franchise’s 45th anniversary with exclusive reveals, nostalgic nods, and a glimpse into the future of Camp Blood.

First Slash: Savini‘s Jason Becomes a NECA Figure

Ahead of the panel, horror fans got their first taste of what’s to come on July 24, when NECA unveiled its Ultimate Savini Jason action figure on the SDCC show floor. Based on the post-hell version of Jason designed by legendary FX master Tom Savini for Friday the 13th: The Game, the 7″ figure marks the first officially licensed collectible from the fan-favorite 2017 game.

Savini, who created the original Jason look in the 1980 classic and The Final Chapter, reimagined Jason as a resurrected hellspawn for the game. That version is now getting the ultimate shelf treatment later this year, as part of the franchise’s expansive new era: Jason Universe.

A Vignette With a Vengeance: First Look at Sweet Revenge

The big day arrived on Friday, July 25, when the official Jason Universe panel slashed through expectations.

Among the biggest reveals was the trailer for “Sweet Revenge”, a short-form vignette premiering August 13, 2025, and marking Jason’s first canonical on-screen appearance in years. Directed by Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn, Silent Night, Deadly Night), the blood-soaked teaser immediately set the fandom ablaze.

Sponsored by Angry Orchard, the short is described as the “centerpiece” of the anniversary campaign, promising a chilling weekend in the woods with Jason back on the hunt. Despite being branded content, the creative team assures that Sweet Revenge is more than a cider ad—it’s a love letter to the franchise.

Nelson shared: “Not only is the vignette a new take on the beloved IP, it is a comforting, gory hug, reminding us why we fell in love with these movies.”

Mask On: New Movie and Game in Development

The most unexpected stab at SDCC came during the panel, when Robbie Barsamian, VP of Horror, Inc., confirmed that both a new sequel film and a new video game are officially in early development.

It’s where most of our energy’s going right now,” Barsamian stated. “We’re finally in a position to deliver.

While official announcements and partners are still under wraps, this marks the first time in over a decade that the Voorhees name has been attached to a new film. Fans, naturally, erupted in celebration.

Crystal Lake Creeps Closer

The upcoming A24/Peacock series Crystal Lake also got its time in the moonlight. Though showrunner Brad Caleb Kane couldn’t attend due to filming, he sent in a video message featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from set—highlighting new locations, practical FX, and eerie atmosphere.

While no footage of Pamela Voorhees or the main cast was revealed, fans were treated to a look at the town and a peek at the new Jason mask, presented by Horror Inc.’s Sheri Conn.

As a prequel set in 1971, Crystal Lake is shaping up to be a psychological and emotional deep dive into the origin of the Voorhees legend. And it now sits firmly under the umbrella of Jason Universe.

From NECA shelves to Peacock streams, this 45-year-old franchise is sharper than ever—and the blood trail has only just begun.
